DHAKA: Police in Bangladesh have arrested the acting editor of a pro-opposition newspaper on various charges.

Dhaka police official Masudur Rahman says they arrested Mahmudur Rahman on Thursday in a raid on the office of the Bengali-language Amar Desh newspaper.

He would not immediately say what charges would be brought against Rahman. The Ekattor TV station says he will face eight charges, including sedition and cybercrime.

Leaders of the government's ruling party have recently accused the daily of inciting violence during recent political unrest.
