LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned officials of the Federal Bureau of Revenue to seek an explanation over a petition submitted against the clean chit given to a large number of candidates for the upcoming elections, DawnNews reported on Thursday.
A larger bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) resumed the hearing of a petition seeking implementation of articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution in order to stop ineligible candidates from contesting upcoming general election.
The petitioner Advocate Shahid Pardesi stated that there was ambiguity in the rules and regulation of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and that the general elections should have been announced after the ambiguities were cleared.
The petitioner further said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had given a clean-chit to a large number of political candidates for the upcoming elections and questioned about the law under which the candidatures were cleared in such short span of time.
The court admitted the petition for hearing and summoned officials of the FBR to appear before the bench on Friday and sought from them an explanation in this regards.
