NAWABSHAH, April 17: A polio vaccinator and two women health workers were injured when some people pelted them with stones in a village near Qazi Ahmed on Wednesday.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Bahadur Khero told reporters that they were performing their duty when all of a sudden a man later identified as Abdul Hafeez Mari and some other people attacked them with stones, injuring Abida Mughal, Fouzia Mughal and vaccinator Khallid Soomro.

Police and a team of the revenue department also reached the village but the accused managed to escape.

The DHO said the incident was of great importance and it would not be avoided. However, the drive would continue as per schedule, he said.

COLLISION: Three persons suffered burns on Wednesday when a tanker filled with an inflammable chemical and a truck caught fire after colliding with each other on the National Highway near Qazi Ahmed.

An injured was identified as Khadim Hussain, but the names of two others could not be ascertained.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
