ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday wrote a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in which he expressed concern over the security of the candidates contesting for the coming elections, DawnNews reported.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner, Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim, President Zardari said that he wanted the ECP to play an active role in providing security to candidates during the historic polls, adding that all caretaker ministers should be directed to ensure this.

The Secretary of ECP Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said that a meeting would be called on April 25 to discuss security measures for the general elections.

The meeting would also discuss the areas where military personnel would be deployed for the provision of security.
