LARKANA, Feb 5: An under-trial prisoner, Abdul Sattar Thebo, died late Tuesday night in the Warah sub-jail, where he had been incarcerated since his arrest over a month ago.

According to reports, he had developed diarrhoea three days ago and was referred to the Taluka Hospital, Warah.

His corpse was kept in the sub-jail till Wednesday.

The Nazim, Warah, Manzoor Chandio, was informed about the incident.

Talking to this correspondent over phone, he (the Nazim) said that the corpse was handed over to the deceased’s son without performing an autopsy.

He said that the Mukhtiarkar had also reached the jail along with the son of the deceased.

He said five prisoners, kept in the Warah sub-jail, had protested over the officials refusal to provide them with proper treatment.

Mr Chandio said that the deceased was suffering from jaundice before the attack of diarrhoea.

He said that he had been told by the son of the deceased, Ali Bakhsh, that he had engaged a lawyer, who had filed a bail application in the local court.

The nazim said that the deceased expired before the decision on the bail application.

Meanwhile, Warah police has registered an FIR in this regard and cited diarrhoea as the cause of the prisoner’s death.
