NEW DELHI: A group of officials from the Pakistani High Commission to India on Saturday visited Sanaullah Haq who had been injured in a brawl with an Indian inmate in a Jammu jail at PGI Chandigarh, the Times of India reported.

Pakistan was granted consular access to Sanaullah by India on Friday night, as well as travel permits to three of its officials and a driver.

According to a spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, the officials of the Pakistan High Commission visited the critically ill prisoner at the Chandigarh hospital where he was under treatment and met his attending doctor.

Sanaullah, 52, is a Pakistani national serving a life sentence under the India’s anti-terror laws. He was attacked by an Indian inmate in Jammu’s high-security Kot Bawal jail.

The attack occurred a day after the demise of Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of spying and bomb blasts in Pakistan. Sarabjit was hospitalised after an attack last week by two inmates at Kot Lakhpat jail where he was serving his sentence.
