FAISALABAD, Feb 6: Landgrabbers and encroachers have disfigured the city’s commercial and residential areas in the teeth of the fact that the Tehsil Municipal Administration has its own anti-encroachment squad.

It is noticed that the Katchery Bazaar, Bhawana Bazaar, Rail Bazaar, Circular Road, Narwala Road and Jhang Bazaar have become havens for the encroachers, but the authorities concerned seem to have no concern with that. Vendors and shopkeepers set up their makeshift shops on footpaths allegedly with the connivance of the TMA’s anti-encroachment squads.

During the evening time, the entire road-strip and footpaths of Montgomery Bazaar and Karkhana Bazaar are occupied by vendors and commission agents of cloths. They leave no space even for the pedestrians and shoppers and paralyze the traffic.

The most neglected site is the Jhang Bazaar where three to four lanes of vendors are seen encroaching the main strip of the bazaar with impunity. Scores of vendors are seen selling their products by displaying them on footpaths and even in the middle of the road.

The divisional administration has directed the TMA’s anti-encroachment squad and the area magistrate to remove movable and permanent encroachments, but these instructions are not being implemented.

ARRESTED: The local Anti-Narcotics Force on Thursday arrested a drug pusher and recovered 40kg of hashish from his house in Chak 75-JB in the area of Thikriwala police station.

The ANF team raided the house of Zubair Ali and arrested him when he was packing hashish in packets. He was handed over to a special team of the ANF for further interrogation.

The ANF spokesman said Zubair Ali had been involved in drug trade for the last couple of months. He brought the drugs from the tribal area and would sell in different parts of the province.

SHOT DEAD: Four armed bandits late Wednesday night shot dead a villager on resistance during a dacoity in Chak 389-GB.

Masked dacoits barged into the house of Hadayat Rasool, held the inmates hostage at pistol point and started collecting valuables. Rasool overpowered one of the outlaws and raised an alarm to attract the neighbours. The bandits became jittery and opened fire on him, killing him instantly. Later, they escaped with the booty.
