Being a cheap and affordable medium of entertainment, circus in Pakistan has a large following. In this picture, three performers dressed as clowns at the Lucky Irani Circus in Karachi are seen entertaining the crowd. - Anahita Hashmani/White Star.

I've been to Lucky Irani Circus years back, guess 10 or 12 years back. I found the Lion show thrilling and most entertaining.

It is the most oldest form of entertainment in all over the world. we should promote such things because this is the only cheap entertainment for poor people as well as you can transfer good messages through this.

Yes, all forms of positive entertainment needs to be promoted. Given that it is afforable to masses, it must be encouraged to enable it to flourish.

I do believe Pakistan needs some funding for the common Joe Entertainment. Though not a resident of Pakistan, but had a chance to visit Karachi a couple of years back..Could not believe the Seaview Wall area on a Friday night. People were just sitting on the curb to get away from the norm, away from all the stresses in the City. I believe that if some release is afforded to the common masses, it will go a long way to take away a lot of evils of the society...Why the Pakistan Think Tank never thinks in those lines is way beyond me, but then again its because of the Think Tank, Pakistan is at this cross roads. These articles is much appreciated and a good appeal to all sucessful Pakistani's Philanthropists to invest and donate to the casue thru NGO's only. Remember it would be Sadqa e Jaria....Keep on blogging on these social issues my friend.

I have been to lucky Irani Circus when I was in my Primary school. The circus was great and I loved the aerobatics show and especially the performance of the jokers.
The second time I "tried" to watch the circus was when I was in the initial phase of my work career and took my nephew and neice to this circus.

Circus is not cheaper these days..atleast not in India. In Pune, it costs you 100rs to sit in a descent row.
One thing is cheaper that is Bollywood movies.. Bollywood killed every form of entertainment in India.. Still we love it.. Kya kare dil hai ki manta nehin.. :)

Circus provides an affordable entertainment for masses but due to the recent violence and extremist activities, it has even affected the business and proceedings of these peaceful performers. Many circuses have closed down because they could not get an NOC to perform in light of security situation in some cities. These are some examples we can quote about how this terrorism has affected our daily lives. To save our culture, we must confront these terrorists with unity among our lines.

I used to enjoy circus very much in my childhood days. I remember, Father told me one day that the life of those clowns are very bad, they always hide their tears in their laugh. Fear of being obliged to weep, their life itself is a seriocomic.

Life is a circus! We are all jokers, trained lions and performers. You dont need to go and watch a circus... you need to pay attention !

Yes, you are very right...life is a circus...we paint our faces with different colors and we are easily conditioned to behave and perform in a particular way. This picture depressed me...I am sure these men never dreamed of having to make others laugh by painting their faces and performing antics to make a living... what a tragedy to be a clown. To have to laugh when that is the last thing you want to do...and laugh believably

I went to see lucky Irani circus back in the mid-80s in Bahawalpur with friends. I was a kid back then and enjoyed it immensely. A few years ago I went to see ALEGRIA by Cirque du Soleil here in the US. While ALEGRIA was flashier, fancier, many of their routines reminded me of the lucky Irani Circus.

Of all the various forms of entertainment I consumed as a kid, lucky Irani circus left more of a memory with me than anything else.
As an adult I don't much enjoy these things anymore. But I most certainly will take my kids to a few circuses.
