KHAIRPUR, Feb 9: The mosque school teachers held a demonstration in protest against the non-payment of their salaries for January on Sunday.

The protesting teachers also observed a sit-in on the Thari-Setharja link road near the Civil Hospital.

A meeting of the All Sindh Masjid School Teachers Association, Khairpur district, had been held on Saturday.

While addressing the meeting, their representative criticized the behaviour of the EDO, Education, Khairpur, and alleged that the EDO took between Rs300 and Rs400 from the salary of each teacher, which should be stopped.

Meanwhile, a meeting of more than 100 Pesh Imams of Khairpur district was held in Pir Jo Goth.

The participants complained that they had not been paid their salaries for the last 10 months.

They demanded of the chief minister and the minister for education, Sindh, to award grade one to the Pesh Imams and to make sure that their salaries were paid.

ROBBED: Five unknown armed men robbed three Tapedars — A. Warayo, Shamsuddin Sadhayo, and Ghulam Hussain Solangi — and their assistants — Ghulam Shabbir, Ghulam Nabi, and Niaz Hussain Gopang — of their cash and other valuables on the Pir-Guddu link road, near the Jiskani village, on Saturday night.

The armed men also injured Ghulam Nabi and Niaz Hussain.

HOUSES GUTTED: Three houses belonging to Gulsher Narejo, Mohammad Narejo and Zameer Ahmed caught fire in the Bachal Narejo village, near Razidero, on Saturday night as a result of which they were reduced to ashes.

Two girls — Shahida and Gulzaran — received burn injuries. Both have been admitted to the Gambat Civil Hospital.

ACCIDENT: A resident of Fateh Ali Chandio village was killed and two were injured when two motorcycles collided head-on here on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Shaman Chandio and the injured as Fauzia and Rajab Shaikh.

Meanwhile, another man, Mohabbat Khan Solangi, died after he fell down from a speedy tractor-trolley in Arab Solangi village near Kumb.

INJURED: A man, Saleem Korejo, was injured in firing by some unidentified persons in Bandhi, kutcha area, Piryaloi.

The motive behind the attack is said to be an old enmity.
