KHAIRPUR, Feb 10: Hundreds of growers held a demonstration on Monday carrying dry crops and by sitting on the dry bed of the Mirwah Canal in protest against the irrigation officials for not supplying water to the canal.

The protest was held under the aegis of the Sindh Hari Committee.

The growers raised slogans against the irrigation officials.

Speaking to the protesters, the district president, Sindh Hari Committee, Wajood Shah, said that water was being supplied up to the Kotdiji regulator while the tail-end growers were suffering due to lack of water.

He said that irrigation officials were offering one or the other excuse for supplying water to influential growers.

He complained that owing to lack of water since the last 20 days, seasonal crops had been badly affected.

He complained that the authorities were exerting pressure through the police for collection of land revenue but they were not ready to ensure availability of water.
