ABBOTTABAD, Feb 19: Two leopards have been killed in the district during the last one week and the carcass of one of them has been found, said officials of the wildlife department.
The officials told Dawn on Tuesday that one of the leopard, also known as snow leopard, was killed in the Boi village and the carcass was also recovered, whereas the other was killed in the Aziz Bang village, but its body was missing.
Doctors of the Veterinary Hospital Abbottabad carried out the autopsy, and some body parts had been sent to Lahore Zoo for further examination, the officials said and added that it was a male, seven feet long and of about six years of age.
Confirming the killing, the divisional forest officer of the wildlife department, Safdar Ali Shah, said that they had registered the cases and hoped that they would soon arrest the culprits.
He said that they had received complaints from the people about the damage caused by the leopards.
ZAKAT FUND: Deputy speaker of National Assembly, Sardar Mohammad Yaqoob has said that instead of giving cash to people from Zakat funds, they should be given training and their skill should be developed so that they could earn livelihood for their families by establishing home-based business units.
He was speaking at the cheques distribution ceremony of Zakat funds among widows and other deserving people of Abbottabad district here on Tuesday.
The cheques were given under the rehabilitation schemes ranging between Rs10,000 and Rs20,000 to at least 40 widows and other needy people of the district.
The deputy speaker said efforts should be made to enable the poor to start their own business by giving them specialized training and funds.
