JAMMU, Feb 23: Indian troops killed seven suspected freedom fighters on Sunday as they entered into occupied Kashmir, a police spokesman said.

Patrolling Indian troops spotted a group of persons infiltrating the border area in Kashmir’s Mendhar district, 210 kilometres west of Jammu, he said.

Indian troops cordoned off the area and shot dead the infiltrators, the spokesman said.

He said Indian security agencies suspected the Kashmiris belonged to the Lashkar-i-Taiba.

In a separate gunbattle, Indian troops killed a Kashmiri in a forest on the outskirts of Srinagar. They said the man was a member of the Al-Badr group.—AFP
