Badminton team named

LAHORE, Feb 24: A 16-member Pakistan badminton team comprising eight men and just as many women has been announced for the ninth SAF Games.

The teams were announced after holding three days trials at the Rodham Hall, Islamabad from Feb 22 to 24.

Surprisingly, Tariq Mahmood of Karachi Port Trust has been named as captain in the presence of top seed and national champion Wajid Ali Chaudhary in the team.

In the women’s section, six players belong to Wapda while the remaining two are from PIA and National Bank of Pakistan.

Teams:

Men: Wajid Ali Chaudhary (Wapda), Muhammad Waqas Ahmed (Wapda), Umar Zeeshan (NEW Khan), Ahsan Qamar (PIA), Shabbar Hussain (New Khan), Tariq Mehmood (Karachi Port Trust), Asadullah Aleem (Karachi Port Trust), Rizwan Asghar Rana (New Khan). Women: Asma Butt (Wapda), Ayesha Akram (NBP), Uzma Butt , Farzana Saleem, Shazia Naurin, Saima Manzoor, Farhana Shaheen and Zahid Ali (Wapda).
