QUETTA, March 2 At least five people were killed and five others injured when a suicide bomber hit a madressah in Killi Karbala village of Pishin district on Monday.

JUI-F provincial president Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani and some other leaders escaped unhurt as they had left the madressah a few minutes before the attack.

“It was a suicide attack,” Pishin District Police Officer Akbar Raisani told Dawn. Three people were killed on the spot and two others died in hospital. He said the bomber was a teenager whose head and parts of legs were found at the site.

According to sources, Maulana Sherani had come to the Jamia Arabia Nizamia Al-Benat after addressing a certificate-distribution ceremony at another madressah in Killi Karbala.

After some time, he left for Pishin, accompanied by Balochistan Assembly's deputy speaker Maulana Mutiallah Agha and provincial minister Syed Abdul Bari Agha.

Soon after his departure, the boy tried to enter the madressah and blew himself up when JUI-F workers tried to stop him.

Police took the bodies and the injured to the civil hospital in Pishin.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Nasim, Abdul Qadir, Jalat Khan, Syed Nizam and Naimullah.

The injured, two of them in serious condition, were later taken to Quetta.—Staff Correspondent
