SUKKUR, March 7: Forty four revenue officials were arrested by the Jacobabad police on Thursday when they started protesting against the Bakhshapur police for registering a case against two Tapedars on Feb 18 on the charge of torturing a landlord, Pir Bukhsh Golo, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The revenue officials, Nazi Bhangwar and Mushtaq, against whom the FIR was registered, claimed that Pir Bukhsh did not died due to being tortured but had died of a cardiac attack.

On Friday morning, many revenue officials (Tapedars) assembled in front of the Jacobabad Press Club led by their leader, Imdad Ali Buledi, and started raising slogans against the police officials, who they alleged were involved in registering false case against them.

A police party arrived there and asked them to disperse. When they refused to do so, the police arrested 44 revenue officials and sent them behind bars.

It may be recalled than on Feb 18, Revenue officials Nazir Bhangwar and Mushtaq Balkani had gone to the Pairab village, near Kashmor, to collect the water tax from an agriculturist, Pir Bukhsh Golo. An argument started between both. The latter told the former that he was unable to pay the government dues. However, the Revenue officials insisted him to clear the dues and whisked him in a car to their office and allegedly tortured him. Later, he succumbed to his injures in a hospital.

After his death, Golo tribesmen carrying his body went to Kandhkot and blocked the Indus Highway for several hours.
