SUKKUR, March 7: Forty four revenue officials were arrested by the Jacobabad police on Thursday when they started protesting against the Bakhshapur police for registering a case against two Tapedars on Feb 18 on the charge of torturing a landlord, Pir Bukhsh Golo, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The revenue officials, Nazi Bhangwar and Mushtaq, against whom the FIR was registered, claimed that Pir Bukhsh did not died due to being tortured but had died of a cardiac attack.
On Friday morning, many revenue officials (Tapedars) assembled in front of the Jacobabad Press Club led by their leader, Imdad Ali Buledi, and started raising slogans against the police officials, who they alleged were involved in registering false case against them.
A police party arrived there and asked them to disperse. When they refused to do so, the police arrested 44 revenue officials and sent them behind bars.
It may be recalled than on Feb 18, Revenue officials Nazir Bhangwar and Mushtaq Balkani had gone to the Pairab village, near Kashmor, to collect the water tax from an agriculturist, Pir Bukhsh Golo. An argument started between both. The latter told the former that he was unable to pay the government dues. However, the Revenue officials insisted him to clear the dues and whisked him in a car to their office and allegedly tortured him. Later, he succumbed to his injures in a hospital.
After his death, Golo tribesmen carrying his body went to Kandhkot and blocked the Indus Highway for several hours.
POWER SHUTDOWN: Hesco on Friday announced the schedule of power shutdown between March 9 and March 14 on its 11-KV ADC and Golimar-I feeders to facilitate repair work being carried out in various places.
The shutdown would affect the supply of electricity to the following areas: Rahoja village, Mubarak Colony, Lal Mashaikh, SRP Office and the Site area on March 9, between 1pm and 6pm in ADC feeder while in the Golimar-I feeder, telephone exchange on March 10, from 1pm to 7pm.
Industrial Area on March 11, from 1pm to 7pm and on March 14, from 7am to 6pm, respectively.
Similarly, a shutdown schedule was also announced for the 11- KV Shalimar feeder affecting the supply of electricity supply on March 8 to the areas of Numaish Road, Qureshi Goth, Nusrat Colony No5, Old Sukkur, Makhdoom Jumani Road, Sessions Court Road, Regent Cinema Road between 7:30am and 4pm, respectively.
