KHAIRPUR, March 7: The second additional sessions judge, Faheem Siddiqui, the other day has awarded a ten-year imprisonment to an accused, Abdul Ghani Shar, in an honour killing case after he found no alternative but to acquit him from the charge of murdering his wife, Sassi, on the pretext of Karo-kari.
The judge heard a compromise application, filed following an out of court settlement jointly by two parties: the heirs of the deceased and the accused.
Mr Siddiqui observed in his judgment that the compromise application implied a confession on the part of the accused.
The compromise application, seeking acquittal under section 302 PPC and 13-D of the arms ordinance was disposed of by the court.
On Jan 1, a murder case was lodged at the Mirwah police station against Abdul Ghani Shar by Mohammad Sadiq son of Sachal, stating therein that Shar had gunned down his wife after reportedly seeing her in a compromising position with an unidentified man, who managed to escape from the scene.
The accused was arrested the same day and the chargesheet of the case was submitted on Jan 16.
