LAHORE The Naseerabad police have registered a case against a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA on the complaint of a married woman who alleged that he raped her at gunpoint.
The police have not arrested the MPA so far.
Tahira Parveen of Green Town alleged that a PML-N MPA from Pasrur, Munawar Ali Gill, had raped her at gunpoint at a Gulberg hotel late on Monday.
Parveen, mother of four, arrived at the Naseerabad police station in early hours of Wednesday and complained that Gill called her to the hotel under the pretext of helping her settle a property dispute.
She said when she reached the hotel, the MPA was present there along with his friend Rana Nasir. Gill sent his friend out of the room and raped her forcibly, she alleged.
Model Town division SP Rana Ayyaz Saleem said following the complaint made by the woman, a case had been registered against the MPA. He said that medico-legal examination had been initiated, and the report of chemical tests would be available in a couple of days. He said the police would soon arrest the MPA.
He said according to the complainant, Nazir and Rafique, both supporters of the MPA, had a property dispute with one of Parveen's relatives and she was called to the hotel by Gill to help her settle the matter.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah told Dawn a case had been registered against the MPA on Punjab government's direction.
He said any legal action would be initiated against the MPA in the light of police investigation, medical examination and court's orders.
MPA Munawar Gill, when contacted, rejected the allegations and termed it pre-planned and politically motivated.
He said the woman met him four months back when PML-N MNA Naseer Bhutta, party leader Zaeem Qadri and local notables of Pasrur requested him to plead her case as she had been running from pillar to post in different offices of Pasrur for the last one year to get settled a property dispute of her cousin.
He said the woman had levelled baseless charges against him possibly at the behest of his political rivals to malign him.
Gill said he neither booked the room in the hotel nor visited it on Tuesday night, adding the woman might have met any other person.
He said the Model Town circle DSP and the Naseerabad SHO were witnesses to the meeting in which the woman had demanded Rs10 million to withdraw the allegations.
He said he would seek bail from the court and would disclose the people at a suitable time who were behind the conspiracy.
