KARACHI Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry visited Central Prison Karachi (CPK) on Sunday on the third day of his tour to Sindh province.

He arrived at the jail at noon accompanied by chief justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC), judges of supreme court and SHC besides lower court judges.

He was presented with a guard of honour upon arrival. A briefing was giveb by the SHC chief justice before Justice Iftikhar was taken inside.

Family members of convicts staged a demonstration outside the jail against prison officials and authorities for not releasing their dear ones despite orders of the court.

The protestors dispersed peacefully after registering their grievances.

Elaborate security arrangements had been made for the visit and roads from the jail to the Judges Rest House in Bath Island were cleared of all vehicles. Rangers were also deputed on security duty.-APP
