Website review: Clubpenguin

Published September 18, 2010

Internet is virtually a world here we make friends, talk to each other, arrange meetings, watch movies and cartoons, share educational stuff, play, etc. But, as not everything and every place is safe for children in the real world, the same is the case with our virtual world. We have to be careful about which places (websites, that is!) to visit and which ones to avoid.

A commendable safe place for children to go and have fun, with a sense of security for parents, is www.clubpenguin.com where, in the first place, you are a penguin (you decide what colour and name) — here you may 'practise reading, develop keyboarding skills and participate in creative role playing', all summed up in a 'safe' intriguing online experience for children.

And, hey, guess what? You play games and, simultaneously, you earn virtual coins. When you keep track of your coins and money, you are also practising math as well as learning how to manage your (pocket) money.

You can also chat with other 'penguins' on the site. Yet, this would not be the common chit-chat as the chat here is monitored by the site staff and anyone using inappropriate language gets kicked out in order to protect the sanctity of the site. And kids, there is so much that you can do on this website such as participating in fun activities like arts and craft, outdoor activities, recipes, etc.

Last but not least, you can also shop for your favourite toy, such as penguins dressed in different outfits like Frankenstein, shipmate, Ninja, scientist, jester, etc. There are other toys like pet puffles, play sets, games, puzzles and many more.

Words cannot express the joy of visiting this site.

For parents the site is quite safe for your children to browse and have fun as one parent recommend the site saying, 'you have a great program and we continue to recommend it to others'. Rest assured.
