UNITED NATIONS, Dec 8 The UN commission investigating the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto would meet any and everybody who would provide it any insight into the case, a UN spokesman said on Tuesday. Responding to reports from Pakistan about claims made by certain Pakistan People's Party leaders that they were being denied access to the commission, the UN spokesman said it would continue to meet 'everybody'.

About the extension to the commission as sought by its Chairman Heraldo Munoz of Chile, the spokesperson said there was nothing new on the matter. However, he agreed with the chairman that its work was impeded by the precarious law and order situation in the country.

Last month the commission formally sought from the Pakistan government a three-month extension for completion of its work.

The three-member commission, which began its work on July 1, was mandated to submit its report identifying facts and circumstances of the 2007 tragedy to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon by December 31, 2009. But the commission said it needed more time — till March 31, 2010, since its work schedule was hampered by the security situation in Pakistan.
