Three die as rain lashes Sanghar

SANGHAR, Aug 3 Three people died in rain-related incidents as Sanghar and Mirpurkhas continued to receive showers on Tuesday. Ms Zainab died when the wall of her house collapsed on her in Mohammad Hassan Chandio village near Shahdadpur.

Marg Mangrio drowned when a boat capsized in Kakahoo Lake near Khipro. His body was recovered by divers.

Plumber Din Mohammad Abro was electrocuted in Morhadi village near Khipro while he was working on a water pumping machine.

Moderate rain started lashing Sanghar district late Monday night and continued intermittently on Tuesday.

Sugarcane and paddy crops have benefited from the rain but cotton crop was damaged in some areas. Rainwater has accumulated in the fields which is harmful for cotton crop.

Due to rains, farmers were unable to spray insecticides on cotton crop, leading to attacks by Jassid and white fly.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds Intermittent rain continued in the city and adjoining areas on Tuesday.

Rain water accumulated on main roads and streets of the city and submerged low lying areas. Chocked drains overflowed in different areas.

Mirpurkhas taluka municipal administrator Abdul Wahab Abbasi said that sanitary staff was busy in draining out stagnant rainwater with the help of pumping machines.

Seven motorcyclists were injured when their motorcycles slipped during rain in different areas of the city.

Power supply remained suspended in different parts of the district which badly affected water supply.

Several kutcha houses were damaged in the district and people living in huts moved out of them.
