PESHAWAR, Nov 29 The rulers brought the country at the verge of collapse by following into the footsteps of former dictator Pervez Musharraf, said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Mian Nawaz Sharif here on Monday.

He said that bad governance, corruption, lawlessness, poverty, unemployment and price hike had made lives of citizens miserable. He asked party activists to get prepared for 'green revolution.'

Addressing a workers' convention, he said that signing of charter of democracy was meant to bring an end to corruption, strengthen democracy in the country and block entry of dictators into politics for ever but Pakistan People's Party failed to keep its commitments in this connection.

He said that his party had decided to bring 'green revolution' in the country by focusing on solution to problems of people. He said that price hike had broken backbone of poor and nobody was able to live an honourable life.

Mr Sharif claimed that several important projects including construction of motorway were launched during his government. “Our government had planned to connect all cities of our country with central Asian countries but the conspirators did not let the government complete its constitutional tenure,” he added.

He said that they wanted to bring an economic revolution, get rid of foreign loans and control prices but Pervez Musharraf toppled their government and imprisoned him. The dictator, he said, had announced a seven-point agenda to muster public support in his illegal action against a democratically elected government but he failed to implement the plan.

“The Kargil war was initiated by Musharraf without consulting me but when he failed to defeat India, he requested me to talk to US President Bill Clinton for brining an end to the war,” he claimed.

Mr Nawaz also referred to killing of Baloch nationalist leader Akbar Khan Bugti and Lal Masjid operation and held Musharraf responsible for the actions. “If the nation dared to raise voice for their rights then no one could usurp them,” he said and asked the people that the time was ripe to take a unified stand for solution to their common problems.

The PML-N, he said, extended sincere support to the government in the best interest of democracy and country but the rulers failed to respond positively and further pushed the country into crisis.

The former premier said that rulers had made fun of judiciary and bulldozed all kinds of rules and regulations. The PML-N, he said, had planned to make the country 'Asian Tiger' but Musharraf foiled the plan.

“The violations have so much increased that judiciary is compelled to take suo motu notices but government is least bothered to implement court orders,” he said. Had the government implemented the charter of democracy the problems would have never increased to that extent, he added.

He alleged that government was appointing incompetent people against important posts and putting future of the country at stake.

Earlier, PML-N provincial chief organiser Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi addressed the convention and lashed out at ruling parties.

He said that corruption was on its peak and rulers were least bothered to fulfil their commitments.

He said that rulers were incompetent enough to seek a permanent solution to terrorism, poverty, inflation and economic problems. “In the past our party was the largest one in the province but through a conspiracy it has been changed into minority but the workers are still in high sprits and ready to strengthen it in every nook and corner of the province,” he said.
