KHAIRPUR, March 24: The Sindh Abadgar Board has demanded of the government to supply good quality seeds, soft-term agricultural loans to the growers of the province.
A resolution, adopted at the annual meeting of the SAB, Khairpur, held in Hingorja, Sobhodero taluka on Monday, also called for electricity for tube-wells at rates and terms provided in Punjab.
Speaking at the meeting, the president of the board, Abdul Majeed Nizamani, said that growers in Punjab had been provided with extraordinary farming facilities, including soft-term loans, adequate water and other agricultural inputs, while farmers in Sindh had been denied such facilities.
Accusing the federal government of duplicity, Mr Nizamani said that while the growers in Punjab had been advanced loans with mark-up of only nine per cent, farmers in Sindh paid 14 per cent mark-up in addition to nine per cent in commission. He added that farmers in Punjab did not pay any commission.
He said that adulterated seeds and pesticides were being supplied through forged companies in Sindh.
He said that Sindh was also being deprived of its due share of water.
CANNABIS SEIZED: The Faiz Ganj police have seized and destroyed Bhung (cannabis) cultivated over an area of one acre near Arz Mohammad Khaskheli village in Faiz Ganj taluka on Monday.
No case was registered till the filing of this report.
SNAKE BITE: A four-year-old girl, Shabana, daughter of Saindad, died after being bitten by a snake the other day in the Nawab Solangi village near Kumb.
In another incident, an 18-year-old boy, Ghulam Shabbir, died in the Mail Khan Ujjan village due to dog bite.
TB DAY: A seminar was held at the Civil Hospital, Khairpur, on the occasion of World TB Day on Monday.
A walk was also organized to create public awareness about the disease.
