KOHAT, Aug 28 The district administration and officials of Wapda on Friday agreed to restore electricity supply to Hangu conditionally by Saturday afternoon.

The people of Hangu, on the other hand, have warned that if power supply was not restored by Saturday noon, Wapda would be responsible for the consequences. They also demanded immediate release of the people arrested for attacking and damaging the Wapda property.

Hangu DCO Mujeebur Rehman, local Wapda officials and hydro union office-bearers held talks on Friday to resolve the issue so that electricity supply could be restored, as the standoff has also affected large parts of Kohat and Thall.

Wapda officials criticised Thursday's incident and demanded the arrest of the rest of people involved in the attacks and payment of damages, which they said amounted to Rs10m.

The DCO assured them that all those who had attacked the Wapda buildings would be brought to justice and requested the officials to restore power supply in view of the sufferings of people during Ramazan. A team of Wapda from Peshawar sought 24 hours for restoring power supply while making it clear to the district administration that they wanted the culprits behind the bars and payment for the losses. — Correspondent
