LAHORE, July 26 Hosts National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) thrashed Punjab 8-1 while Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), Army and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) were the other winners on day five of the second NBP Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

Mohammad Atiq contributed in NBP's win by scoring a hat-trick (39th, 42nd and 48th minutes). The remaining five goals came through Tariq Aziz (eighth min), Naeem Akbar (30th min), Akhtar Ali (37th min), Yasir Shabbir (50th min) and Mohammad Rizwan (54th min).

Punjab's consolation goal was scored by Sajid Ali in the 56th minute.

Meanwhile, PIA edged past Navy 5-4. Shafqat Rasool (sixth min), Mahmood Ali (45th min), Ehsanullah (65th min) Zaheer Ahmed (69th min) and Inayatullah (70th min) scored for the winners. For Navy, Rao Nadeem scored a hat-trick (24th, 43rd and 50th mins) and Rashid contributed one (19th min).

KESC Beat Pakistan Air Force (PAF) 3-0. Shahzad Aslam and Sajjad Anwar converted two penalty corners in the 28th and 33rd minutes, respectively, while the third goal was scored by Amir (40th min).

Army too got no retaliation from Pakistan Steel Mills when they beat them 4-0. Mohammad Afzal (third and 20th mins) and Safeer (35th and 63rd mins) scored two goals each for the winners.

In the day's last encounter, HBL beat Police 3-2. Ali Azlan scored two (sixth and 16th mins) and Nasir Shahzad one (52nd min) for the winners while Niaz Ahmad (23rd min) and Asghar Ali (62nd min) scored for the losing side.—Agencies
