ISLAMABAD The country's basketball federation on Wednesday selected 20 players to undergo training for the 11th South Asian Games.
The Games will be held in Bangladesh from Jan 29 to Feb 8.
An official of the basketball federation told Dawn on Wednesday that the players were selected after three-day trials held at the Hamidi Hall of the Pakistan Sports Complex.
The selection committee was headed by the federation's secretary Naseem Butt along with Mohammad Bashir and Ghulam Dastagir.
Though the federation had already selected 20 camp trainees after the National Basketball Championship in April this year, it had decided to hold trials since the team was taking part in an international event after a long gap.
'We have selected players on the basis of their technique, stamina and fitness. The selected players will undergo training under coach Abdul Ghafoor and assistant coach Imran Bashir,' the official said.
The final 12-man squad will be named next month.
Players Nawazish Ali, Pervez Hussain, Muddasir Khan, Waheed Iqbal, Waheed Akhtar, Mohammad Akram, Mohammad Prem Shahzad, Ahmed Jan, Mohammad Akhtar, Alijah, Niamatullah, Ghulam Murtaza, Rashid Minhas, Mohsin Khan, Shaharyar, Zahid Mehmood, Asfandyar, Gul Jamal, Talah Amjad, Ahmed Khalid.
