HYDERABAD, March 31 Two mega projects, one of four flyovers (signal-free corridor) worth Rs2 billion and the other Ghangra Mori bypass with a revised cost of Rs1,400 million would be completed by the end of April.

District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has invited President Asif Zardari to inaugurate these projects and received an acknowledgement call from the Presidency. The projects on completion would ease traffic hazards for those travelling towards Badin and Mirpurkhas district from other areas of Sindh.

District Nazim while confirming the invitation told Dawn on Tuesday that President may adjust programme for inauguration in any upcoming visit which would be confirmed later, he said.

The signal-free corridor project includes four flyovers on Thandi Sarak, National Highway, unit-7 Latifabad and Gharib Nawaz chowk flyover. The unit-7 Latifabad flyover had already been opened for travelling between Latifabad and Hyderabad while its additional ramp to Auto Bhan would also be opened for public soon.

Other flyovers to serve as signal-free corridor from Super Highway to Hyderabad Railway Station were at Poonam, Shahbaz Chowk and Gharib Nawaz.

Ghangra Mori bypass would be the second biggest road sector project of the district government after Rani Bagh's renovation. The bypass was around 11km with two flyovers to provide a safe passage to those travelling between Karachi and interior Sindh. The commuters will have a hurdle-free access through this corridor to reach Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Tandojam, Talhar, Matli and Badin. Its initial cost was estimated at Rs900 million. Change in design raised the cost to Rs1,400 million, said District Nazim.

The district government Hyderabad was facing 40 per cent deficit in budgetary allocations following deduction by the finance department.

District Nazim had approached President Zardari to ensure release of funds.
