HYDERABAD, April 5 The action committee of the sacked workers of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) have appealed to the president and prime minister to order their reinstatement.

Leaders of the committee, Ms Zaibunnisa, Jamal Qureshi and Nadir Khoso said at a news conference at the press club on Sunday that their services were terminated by newly-appointed managing Director of SIDA without any reason.

They said that 50 SIDA employees were dismissed with one stroke of pen on April 3 without issuing any show-cause notice although they had been working for years. It was a grave injustice with the poor employees, they said.

Ms Zaibunnisa reminded the PPP government of its promise to provide “Roti, Kapra aur Makan” and said that what to talk of Kapra and Makan they had even been deprived of Roti by the MD SIDA who, she alleged, was himself dismissed from the irrigation department.

She paid tribute to the secretary of SIDA, a noted short story writer, Ghulam Nabi Mughal, for refusing to sign their termination orders and instead opting for his own resignation.

She appealed to authorities to consider the case of 50 sacked workers dispassionately and order their reinstatement.— Bureau
