HYDERABAD, April 28 The district government has launched over 1,500 uplift schemes costing more than Rs15 billion, said District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil here on Tuesday at the inauguration of a road in Latifabad union council-10, constructed at a cost of Rs10 million.

He said the schemes included new filter plants, sewerage treatment plants, water supply lines, hospitals, parks, playgrounds, roads, flyovers and libraries.

The district government, he said, had constructed a pumping station near Apwa school of the UC-10 of Latifabad unit No.8 which was located in the low-lying area and a lot of water accumulated there during the rainy season every year. On two occasions, the people had to be shifted to safe places in boats, but now the accumulating water would be drained out immediately, Mr Jamil said.

He said it had been ensured that roads and streets were constructed after laying the sewerage lines to save the communication from drain water.

He said two new blocks had been constructed in the Apwa school to provide best educational facilities to children, and added that Khadeja dispensary had been converted into a fully-fledged hospital to facilitate growing number of patients.

Akbari ground and Bagh-i-Mustafa had been renovated and a park had been constructed to provide sports and recreational facilities to people, he said.

Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Hussain Kaimkhani said it was due to the development of Hyderabad that foreign investors were interested in setting up industrial units in this historic city.

EDO (works and services) Masood Memon, gave a briefing on the road.

Many elected representatives, including women, and officials of the district government attended the inauguration.
