HYDERABAD, March 12 Problems facing Wapda can't be resolved by privatization but by adopting measures in consonant with those implemented by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

President Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union Abdul Latif Nizamani gave this advise while opposing the move of the utility of raising tariffs on and off. Instead of overburdening consumers, the utility should think of enabling them in making prompt payments by bringing down charges he said adding that this would also reduce pilferages.

He said this during the oath taking ceremony of the newly-elected office-bearers of different wings of Hesco at the Labour Hall on Thursday. Hundreds of employees attended the function.

He said that the government claiming itself democratic and worker-friendly should desist from privatising national enterprises.

He said that Wapda employees face violence while making recovery of dues and called upon the administration to provide protection to workers. Pakistan can never progress if its workers were not happy, Nizamani said.

Others who spoke included provincial general secretary of the union, Iqbal Ahmed Kaimkhani, Mir Khan Baloch, Malik Sultan and others.

VISIT Students of BS part-IV of department of Economics, University of Sindh, on Thursday visited the State Bank of Pakistan, Hyderabad office, and attended orientation sessions.
