HYDERABAD, April 16 Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has said the Holy Quran focuses on the unity of mankind and teaches tolerance.

The message in the Holy Quran is of universal harmony, peace, security and submission to Almighty Allah, he said at a lecture on 'Religious Tolerance in the Holy Quran and Message of Brotherhood', organised by the Department of Sindhi as the concluding session of founder's week celebrations on Thursday.

The vice-chancellor said it was a great honour for him that he had learned recitation of the Holy Quran from great scholar Allama I.I.Kazi, and his central point of philosophy was based on the teaching of the Holy Quran.

He urged students to regularly read the Holy Quran and understand it, and also to follow its teachings. Regular recitation of the Holy Quran could improve students' memory, he said and added that people could find solution to their problems in the holy book.

Mr Siddiqui also recited many versus from the Holy Quran and translated them to prove his point that the Holy Book teaches respect for human being and service to mankind.

Dr M. Qasim Bughio, Dean Faculty of Arts; Dr Noor Afroz Khoja, chairperson of Sindhi department, and Prof Abdul Ahad Azad Kazi also spoke on the occasion.

PRIZE DISTRIBUTION The Bureau of STAGS, University of Sindh, organised a prize distribution ceremony to award prizes and appreciation certificates among winners of an essay writing competition.

Two students from each Institute and department participated in the competition held as part of the founder's week celebrations.

Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui distributed prizes and appreciation certificates among the winners.
