KARACHI Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that all decisions in Sindh are made with consensus and in consultation with the government coalition partners through the Core Committee and this tradition will be followed regarding the restoration of old status of the Hyderabad district, said an official statement issued here on Sunday.

The chief minister said that media presented the statement of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, which he gave during the Hyderabad division workers' convention, pertaining to the restoration of Hyderabad district out of context.

Recalling the statement of the prime minister, the chief minister said that the prime minister had said that the matter pertaining to restoration of Hyderabad district would be considered after consultation with all stakeholders and allies of the government.

Meanwhile, acting Governor Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said no notification on the future status of Hyderabad had been issued yet.

Speaking during his visit to the Sindh PPP media cell on Sunday, Mr Khuhro said the decision of dividing the district in the past had been made against the aspirations of the local population in 2005. However, the matter of the district's future status was not a big issue to be sorted out, he said.

He argued that when Karachi could be a single unit of five districts with a population of 150 million population, why could not a small city like Hyderabad be a single unit. No objection should be raised if its old status was restored, he insisted. — APP
