ABBOTTABAD: Snow blankets Galyat

ABBOTTABAD, Feb 5 Thandiyani, Nathiagali, Ayubia and other hilly areas of the district received heavy snow and rain, bringing down the temperature to freezing point on Thursday.

At least two and half feet snow was reported in Thandiyani, while one to two feet was recorded in Nathiagali, Ayubia, Changla Gali, Donga Gali and other parts of Galyat.

The main Abbottabad-Murree road was closed for all kinds of vehicular traffic from Bara Gali onward, while the road was open for light traffic using iron chains on tyres from Bara Gali to Nathiagali.

Two snow-removing machines were operating between Koza Gali to Changla Gali while one machine was working from Nathiagali to Koza Gali.

Link roads in the entire Galyat were completely closed for all kinds of traffic due to heavy snowfall. The power supply was also suspended on Wednesday night and it could not be restored till filing of this report.

Due to heavy rain in Abbottabad city, all drains along the Karakoram Highway were chocked, resulting in acute problems for the people. The rainwater also washed away repaired portions of the road and patches were converted into big potholes.
