35 noted personalities get awards

KARACHI, March 23 Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan conferred Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Presidential Award for Pride of Performance and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz on 35 personalities at a ceremony at the Governor's House on Tuesday.

Nine persons were presented with Sitara-i-Imtiaz, 10 with Presidential Award for Pride of Performance and 16 with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.

The recipients of Sitara-i-Imtiaz were Dr Shahid Mansoor (science and genetic engineering), Adil Salahuddin (public service), Asad Omer (public service), Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah (agriculture), A.K. Khan (public service), Allama Talib Jauhari (scholar), Khawaja Suhail Mansoor (highest taxpayer), Islahuddin (hockey) and Massimo Paddio.

The pride of performance award was presented to Safdar Habib (engineering), Anwar Solange (acting, posthumous), Anis Rabia Zuberi (sculpture art), Musarrat Misbah (beauty), Sobho alias Sobhraj Gayanchandani (literature), Mohammed Ibrahim Joyo (literature), Fahmida Riaz (literature), Sultan Ahmed (journalism, posthumous), Sahibzada Mohammed Shahid Khan Afridi (cricket), and Satesh Chandra Anand.

Those decorated with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz were Masood Parekh, Gulzar Feroz, Maqsood Ismail, Seema Mughal, Masood Naqi, Waqar Azim and Nadeem Akhtar for public service, Dr Neelofar Shaikh (ancient ruins), Shahina Puri (singing), Akbar Khamiso Khan (alghozanawazi), Ustad Nazir Khan (tablanawazi), Dr Qasim Bughio (literature), Sabir Zafar (poetry), the late Qamar Shahbaz (poetry), Waqar Azim, Nadeem Akhtar, Arif Balgamwala (philately) and Sono Khangrani.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and families of award recipients.—APP
