ISLAMABAD Aqeel Khan, Asim Shafique, Hameedul Haq and Tanvir Ashiq booked their places in the quarterfinals of the National Clay Court Tennis Championship here on Thursday.
Top seed Aqeel Khan cruised past Wakeel Khan in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2.
Meanwhile, the number two seed, Asim Shafique overcame Rashid Malik, also in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Aqeel Khan will now play Hameedul Haq while Asim Shafique will face Sadanul Haq in the last eight on Friday.
In the ladies singles event, top seed Sara Mehboob came back from behind to beat Mehak Khokhar. Mehak won the first set 6-4 hitting some powerful backhand shots but Sara made a good come back winning the second 7-5. Sara then wrapped up the match winning the third set 6-4.
Saba Aziz, Ushna Sohail and Sara Mansoor also reached the semi-finals. Saba Aziz defeated Anam Aysha, while Sara Mansoor and Ushna Sohail got a walkover against their opponents.
In the men's doubles category, Tanvir Ashiq and Abid Ali; Asim Shafique and Hameedul Haq; Aqeel Khan and Rashid Malik, and Usman Ejaz and Imran Shaukat reached the semi-finals.
