LAHORE The Pakistan Junior hockey team outclassed Russia 14-0 in the opening match of the five-nation junior hockey tournament in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday.

According to the information received from Egypt, Pakistan led by seven goals to nil at the end of the first half. 

Captain and forward Abdul Haseem Khan and fullback Mohammad Wasif Siddique scored hat-tricks. Haseem scored in the 12th, 15th and 16th minutes while Wasif converted as many as three penalty corners in the 32nd, 64th and 65th minutes. 

Vice-captain and fullback Mohammad Atiq was also successful in converting two penalty corners in the 20th and 36th minutes.  Forwards Syed Adeel Hussain (24th and 38th mins) and Mohammad Rizwan (30th and 52nd) also scored two goals each. 

Meanwhile forwards Yasir Shabbir and Mohammad Taufeeq scored one goal each in the 56th and 57th minutes, respectively.

Pakistan will play their second match against Ghana on March 23 at 4.00pm (PST). The tournament features Ghana, Italy and Russia besides Pakistan and hosts Egypt.
