GUJRANWALA, April 7: Governor Khalid Maqbool has urged the manufacturers and industrialists to improve the quality of their products to compete in the international market.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of “Made-in-Gujranwala” industrial exhibition here on Monday, the governor said a strong national economy was imperative for the progress and prosperity of the country. He said the government would provide better facilities to industrialists.
He announced that a three-lane road would be constructed between Gujranwala and Lahore.
The governor directed the city tehsil council to work out for the construction of an export display centre.
He later distributed prizes among the manufacturers and industrialists who had set up stalls at the exhibition.
STRIKE CALLED OFF: The Transport Society Gujranwala Public Vehicle Owners Association has called off the strike to be observed from Monday against traffic police for removing wooden benches from their vehicles.
The strike was called off when the district administration invited the association for talks on Tuesday.
At a meeting held here on Monday with TSG association president Rana Amjad in the chair, the participants threatened that they would take their vehicles off the road from Wednesday if the district administration or the Regional Transport Authority did not accept their demand.
CRUSHED: An elderly woman was crushed to death by a speeding wagon in Cantonment here on Monday.
Kaneez Fatima (70) was crossing the Sugar Mill Chowk when the incident occurred. She died on the spot.
Cantonment police have registered a case and are investigating.
