THATTA, April 7: Noted academician and poet of the Laar (lower Sindh) Mohammad Khan Majidi, 85, passed away on Monday in Sujawal, his native town.
THe people from all walks of life attended his funeral prayers. He was later buried at the Bukhari graveyard.
The octogenarian poet was born in 1918 in the Shadman Jatoi village, near Jhoke Sharif. After graduating from the Sindh Madressah and securing first class first position in the province. He taught for 35 years to primary school students and was a pioneer of the Primary Teachers’ Association.
He was the author of Sindhri Aeein Unn Joon Qaumoon (Sindh and its nations) and Mittee Muhinji Mittee Aahe (The soil is my soil).
The late Majidi, whose stature equals that of Sarwaich Sujawali and Ibrahim Munshi, will long be remembered for his poetry, a source of inspiration for the young generation.
