ISLAMABAD Acknowledging the crucial role of a custodian in modern-day hockey, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will soon establish a goalkeeping academy in the country.

'Keeping in view the importance of unique position of goalkeeper in the modern hockey, PHF will soon set up training academies for goalies,' former goalkeeper of the national side Ahmed Alam said on Monday.

He added that necessary work for the purpose had been completed in accordance with PHF secretary Asif Bajwa's directions.

'Initially around 25 to 30 boys will be selected from different parts of the country in under-14, under-16 and under-18 categories,' he said.

Ahmed Alam said although the venue for these academies had yet to be decided, he had suggested that these should randomly be set up in various cities.—APP
