DHAKA Pakistan's top squash player Aamir Atlas Khan clinched gold in South Asian Games when he beat his compatriot Farhan Mehboob in three straight games in the final before a jam-packed crowd at Dhaka Club's centre court on Monday evening.

Twenty-year-old Aamir, who contented with a silver medal in Colombo Games after losing to compatriot Mansoor Zaman in 2006, fulfilled his dream of becoming the regional topper when he defeated Farhan 12-10, 11-7, 11-7, APP reported

Ranked 31 in the World, Farhan offered Aamir stiff resistance in the opening game before going down 10-12. Aamir proved a swift mover in the court and hit some brilliant strokes in front as well as the back of the court.

However Aamir changed the tactics in the second game, playing in steady fashion by keeping his opponent at the back of the court and took the second game 11-7.

After conceding 2-0 lead, Farhan looked slightly under pressure and taking advantage, Aamir wrapped the third game 11-7 to seize the gold after a 39-minute tussle.

Pakistan manager and squash great Qamar Zaman told APP at the venue that his team will now be looking to complete a double in the team competition with Aamir, Farhan and Mansoor Zaman in the line-up.

He complimented both Aamir and Farhan for the excellent play and helping their country to win both the gold and silver medals.
