THATTA, April 8: Sindh Revenue Minister Altaf Hussain Unnar has claimed that since the adoption of a unanimous resolution against the Thal canal by the Sindh Assembly, the construction of the project has been suspended.
Talking to newsmen in Makli on Tuesday, he said the Sindh government was committed to protecting the interests of the province.
Denying differences between Nazims and ministers, Mr Unnar said the new devolution system had brought relief to people.
He disclosed the revenue record of Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Nawabshah and Hyderabad districts had been computerized to streamline the collection of revenue and check fraudulent transfers of Khatas. The work of computerizing record of other districts in the province was in full swing, he added.
PPP: Maula Bux Chandio, deputy general secretary, PPP (Sindh), Shah Mohammad Shah, and Aijaz Ali Khwaja, both members Sindh Council, and other provincial leaders of the party have claimed that their party has widely condemned the aggression and brutalities on the civilians of Iraq.
The PPP said this while responding to the criticism of the media about the party’s hypocritical attitude towards the world’s most volcanic issue of today.
They were speaking at the residence of Kashif Raza at Mirpur Bathoro town on Tuesday.
They said that the party’s chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, in view of her political wisdom, had announced PPP’s policy on Iraq.
They said, she knew, that Pakistan being a nuclear power, and having a long dispute over Kashmir and its strategic geographical situation in the subcontinent demanded a wise and realistic policy on the issue of Iraq.
They said mere sentimentalism against the ground realities had always proved to be counter-productive in the past, and the Pakistan People’s Party’s stance on Iraq was a wise one.
The leaders guardedly claimed that the Sindh government was not going to survive for more than three months, adding that a change was in the offing.
The PPP leaders said under the directives of Benazir Bhutto, they have initiated a contact tour of the province to activate the workers and listen to their advises and criticism.
The party leaders said they were very carefully scrutinizing the root causes of the massive defeat of their candidates in the recent general elections from Thatta district, and later on, if found necessary, some changes in key posts could not be ruled out.
