LAHORE Pakistan's Wajid Ali, Umer Zeeshan, Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri recorded victories in the qualifying round of Asian Badminton Championship on Tuesday.

National number one Ali advanced to the second round of the qualifiers by beating Burhanudin Mir of Afghanistan 21-6, 21-7.

Ali exhibited an aggressive serve game and rock-like defence to outshine his opponent.

Meanwhile, Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri beat Ajfan Rasheed and Sharafudin Naseem of Maldives 21-14, 21-5 in men's doubles.

The doubles pair of Wajid Ali and Umer Zeeshan outplayed Hashita Chanake and Rajitha of Sri Lanka in a hard fought three-set match 19-21, 21-16 and 21-16. The Pakistani apir overcame an opening set loss and showed greater commitment in the remaining part of the match to make quick recovery.

However, Pakistan's women's players Sara Khan and Palwasha Bashir lost their respective ties.

Sara Khan lost to India's Thulasi 21-9, 21-10 and Palwasha Bashir was beaten by Lekha Sherani of Sri Lanka 21-9,21-12. —APP
