Murree freezes after snowfall

Published January 4, 2010

MURREE, Jan 3 The resort town of Murree received light snowfall of the current season after which temperature plunged below freezing point on Sunday.

A large number of tourists had already reached the area after the Met Office forecast snowfall. It is expected that the area would receive more snowfall.

Tourists in a large number came out of their hotels to enjoy the weather.

On the other hand, locals faced a number of problems and most of them remained blocked as roads linking small areas are buried under the snow. Besides, long-hour power suspension also hit Murree and Galyiat.

This year, tourists are enjoying natural gas in their hotels in the town but the local population is still deprived of the facility.

The federal government had last year exempted Murree from loadshedding of electricity but this year the facility ahs been withdrawn.

APP adds Mostly families visit the Murree on weekend to enjoy the holiday at the different locations especially during snowfall in winter.

Zubair Khan, a visitor, said Murree had all the facilities for enjoyment.

He said the local administration should develop some other places like a park for providing healthy recreational facilities to the people.

Pindi Point is a place of attraction for the visitors. Hundreds of people visit the point daily and take a beautiful view of Rawalpindi and enjoy chair lift.

A visitor, Kiran, said Pindi Point was very attractive as it had been designed beautifully.

She lauded the civic body for construction of such attractive picnic spots at different places, saying “Murree has several marvellous places like Ayubia and Kashmir Point.”
