QUETTA, May 9 A police official was shot dead in Khuzdar on Saturday.

According to police, the Station House Officer of the City Police Station, Mumtaz Ahmed Mohammad Hasni, was on his way to office when assailants riding a motorcycle ambushed his car near the Post Office.

The SHO was seriously injured and died while on way to a hospital in Karachi.

Mr Hasni had survived a bomb blast near his house last month.

A man who identified himself as Meerak Baloch and claimed to be speaking on behalf of the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army said his organisation had carried out the attack.

Meanwhile, five people were injured in a blast in the industrial town of Hub.

According to police, the explosive device had been planted near a private hospital on the National Highway connecting Karachi to Quetta.

“The explosive device was homemade,” police officials said. Police were interrogating some suspects.
