MURREE: Dilapidated buildings

Published April 13, 2003

MURREE, April 12: The dilapidated buildings in Murree city are a constant threat to the lives of the residents and passers- by.

The alterations in these old buildings and the illegal constructions had made it dangerous for the people and the other buildings nearby. In the GPO Chowk, an old hall, which was once used for indoor games and functions, had been converted into a hotel and a market with the connivance of the officials concerned. A heavy construction has been carried out on this old hall, which is risky. This old hall lies in the vicinity of the famous Ciros street where many restaurants are situated.

The owners of these restaurants have complained to the administration several times, but to no vail. After the recent heavy rains and snowfall, the condition of many buildings has further worsened.
