SUKKUR, Aug 11 Hundreds of people took out a procession here on Wednesday to draw attention of the authorities to cracks that have developed in the flood protective wall as a result of which water is flowing on Bunder Road and posing a threat to the city.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesters took to the streets and began a march from Clock Tower and shouted slogans against the government. They shouted slogans while marching on the main thoroughfares of the city. The protesters reached on the Bunder Road where they held a demonstration. The shopkeepers, who were asked to pull their shutters, did not respond to their call.
They also raised slogans against President Asif Ali Zardari and federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah.
Talking to the journalists, they accused Mr Shah of resisting a cut in Ali Wahan protective embankment to protect his and his relatives' agriculture land in the area.
They said that the minister was just looking after his own interests and had left Sukkur at the mercy of nature. They apprehended that the entire city would be flooded if Bunder Wall was damaged.
