LAYYAH, May 3 The chief minister's task force on wheat procurement has detected that 139,000 gunny bags were distributed to middlemen/brokers instead of peasants at the Head Warrery purchase centre.

Talking to reporters at the Circuit House, Shahid Mahmood Khan, an MPA who is also chairman of the task force, said that anti-corruption establishment had been directed to register case against food inspector Sheikh Shaukat Mahmood and centre supervisor Mahmood Ahmad.

“Out of 190,000 bags target, the centre in-charge distributed 139,000 gunny bags to traders and small farmers were totally ignored,” Shahid added. He said that gunny bags distribution scheme was basically meant for small peasants and those who would ignore the interest of small farmers would be dealt with iron fist.

He said that exemplary punishment would be given to the negligent food officials.Earlier, the MPA made surprise visit to Chak 117/TDA and Chuobara wheat procurement centres.
