KOHAT, Aug 17 A minor girl was injured during an exchange of fire between law enforcers and a group of militants in Hangu district on Monday.

Doaba police, acting on a tip off, besieged a group of militants involved in attacks on the security forces. The police raided their hideouts and asked the militants to surrender. But the militants started indiscriminate firing. As a result a seven-year-old girl Saima Bibi was injured whereas the militants managed to escape. Later on Hangu police arrested an outlaw Mohammad Kameel, resident of Lodhi Khel after raiding his house.

OFFICIAL FREED The intelligence agencies released a government official accused of funding a banned militant organisation after keeping him in captivity for several days, Dawn learnt officially. After he was cleared of all charges and released, the intelligence sleuths took away his son, an active member of Jaish-i-Muhammad, and shifted him to disclosed location for interrogation. — Correspondent
