KARACHI, April 14: The IBA Karachi has agreed to hold examinations of 17 students of MCS programme of 2001 batch at the IBA Sukkur after some necessary adjustment, said sources in Education Department, Sindh.

A meeting of the department, attended by directors of IBA Karachi and Sukkur, with the provincial education secretary was held the other day to consider the MCS programme offered by the IBA Sukkur.

According to official sources, the meeting was informed that IBA Sukkur, which was affiliated with the IBA Karachi for BBA, MBA and BCS programmes, had started MCS programme without securing affiliation from IBA Karachi. The meeting was further informed that since IBA Karachi itself did not run any MCS programme, it was not possible for it to grant affiliation to the IBA Sukkur in its MCS programme.

The director of IBA Sukkur maintained that his institute had not given admissions for MCS and MIT programme for the last two years and that it had taken only one batch in 2001. He said that the batch was almost mature academically for the degree while the IBA Karachi had refused to award it a degree.

However, upon request to save the future of 17 students enrolled with the IBA Sukkur, the director of IBA Karachi apprised the meeting that his institute was offering a programme of similar nature under the name of MBA-MIS and he could offer the same to the batch but only with necessary adjustments and amendments. The MBA-MIS, he added, would have six months semester or so to make it equivalent to the MCS programme.

He further offered conduct of remaining courses at IBA Karachi for the batch if the IBA Sukkur lacked such facilities.

According to the source, it was observed at the meeting that it was for the IBA Sukkur to convince the students and their parents on the change in programme. The students should realize that MBA-MIS was a more valued degree than MCS, the director of IBA Karachi contended.
