ISLAMABAD National Institute of Health (NIH) on Tuesday confirmed that 24 deaths had been reported from swine flu (H1N1) so far throughout the country.

According to NIH sources, out of total 1,029 suspected cases 253 reported H1N1 positive while in 24 deaths three were from Islamabad, 12 from Punjab, five from Sindh, two from AJK, one from NWFP and one from Gilgit-Baltistan.

They said out of 253 positive cases 76 were reported from Islamabad, 85 from Punjab, 13 from NWFP, 73 from Sindh, four from AJK, one from FATA and one from Gilgit-Baltistan.

When contacted an official of Ministry of Health said that the government has taken all possible measures within its resources for prevention and protection from disease including distribution of antiviral medicine Oseltamivir Tami-flu to all provincial health departments for further disbursement.

He said detailed guidelines and distribution recommendations for the anti-viral medicine has also been issued to the departments concerned for proper utilisation of these medicines.

He said information education communication material has also been distributed to all provincial health departments for further dissemination at public places, schools, bus stops and in hospital premises.

He said a letter with detailed recommendation for preventing spread of swine flu in school children has been issued by the Director General Ministry of Health to Secretary Education for further dissemination to all concerned all over the country.—APP
